Titanic and Antique Jewelry Revisited

Well, the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic is coming up and the re-release of the movie with Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.  I have seen the original movie several times, mostly because I am intrigued by the costumes and antique jewelry of that era.  But when things go awry, the glamour and pageantry over, and the ship starts sinking I tend to shut it off.

But for years I have been wondering...where is all the Edwardian jewelry?!  Most of the jewels on the women in the movie Titanic look to be Victorian or Art Nouveau.  1912 was the height of the Edwardian era.  And as we Edwardian jewelry fans know, that means lacey platinum designs with diamonds and pearls.  Garlands and bows and tassels.  Filigree magic and open pierced work.  Elegance and delicacy.

Have I missed something?

I probably will watch it yet again this week and take another look!

In the meantime, take a look at this Edwardian diamond ring from the Titanic, which will be auctioned at Guernsey's in New York City this month.
