There was much excitement yesterday, as Sotheby's NY auctioned a 6.54 ct fancy intense pink diamond ring from the collection of Evelyn H. Lauder, to benefit breast cancer research.
It sold for $8.59 million as part of the Magnificent Jewels auction.
Wow, is all I can say.
The internally flawless pink stone, was graded fancy intense pink by the GIA. Most pink diamonds will have a grading of SI (slightly included), so this along with the exceptional color, makes this diamond extra special.
A beautiful fancy intense yellow heart shaped 47.14 ct diamond, bought $2.5 million, significantly higher than its $1.5 million to $2 million estimate. Estée Lauder purchased the diamond set as a ring from the Duchess of Windsor in the 1970s. She later had Van Cleef and Arpels remove the diamond from the ring and mounted in a diamond pendant necklace.
The auctions of jewels from the collections of Estée Lauder and Evelyn H. Lauder took in $22.2 million, and the net proceeds will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, founded by Evelyn Lauder in 1993.
Gives me a nice warm holiday feeling!
